6。 “Pointing to the six men beside him。 'Are these your friends?'I asked。 'No sir, I don't know these gentlemen。' Then the six others suddenly joined in the conversation。
They all talked at once。 I understood that all six were engineers and all wanted the job 。 They had learned in advance of the ad and come to see me。
One was saying, 'I learned of your ad from the doorman at the newspaper, the bastard took me for a hundred lira。' Another said, ' Have you heard of such a shyster? So the lowdown scoundrel sold the same ad to all six of us! There sure are a lot of greedy people in the workd today!' Another said。
'Don't slander the poor guy! I bought the ad from the typesetter。 Your doorman was generous。 That damn typesetter took me for two hundred bucks。
If it worked,I was ready to say , “Take it with my blessing!”
