4。 My opinion is that we should see his attitude from different aspects。 His attitude was varied in different situations。
Motivation: Many Marxist critics treated “A Tale of Two Cities” as a revolutionary intent。 Then why the revolutionist Madame Defarge was portrayed like a devil-like person? And why those who were sympathetic with the French Revolution like Dr Manette and Sydney Carton were prosecuted in the novel? Was the author’s attitude contradictory? In this paper I will make preliminary analysis of these questions。

Thus he was no more a revolutionist than a defender of the depraved social system。
