difference between 竟然 and 居然

    Both express surprises。 For example, 曹操竟然让皇上给他递弓箭 can also be expresses as 曹操居然让皇上给他递弓箭。
  However, there are subtle differences between the two sentences。   The first one is less emphatic than the second one。
   The first one is surprising, but not totally out of expectation while the second expresses not only a surprise but anger as well。
