The city of Dalian is located on the eastern bank of the Eurasian Continent and the southernmost point of the Liaodong Peninsula in the northeastern part of China。
It is washed by the Yellow Sea on the east and the Bohai Sea on the west, overlooking the Shandong Peninsula across the sea to the south and bordering the great span of the Northeast Plain to the north。
It serves as the marine gateway for northeast China and Inner Mongolia to have access to North China and East China
The Dalian Municipality now have six districts (Zhongshan, Xigang, Shahekou, Ganjingzi, Lushunkou, and Jinzhou Districts), three county-level cities (Wafangdian, Pulandian, and Zhuanghe cities) and one county (the Changhai county) under its jurisdiction。
Its total area is 12,573。85 km2, and its total population by the end of 2001 was 5。546 million。
